Stomach infection sidelines the opener ahead of crucial Namibia clash on February 12

India’s T20 World Cup campaign has hit an early health scare, with opener Abhishek Sharma hospitalised in Delhi due to a stomach infection casting serious doubt over his availability for Thursday’s match against Namibia at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

The 24-year-old missed Tuesday’s training session, the first red flag for team management. A BCCI source confirmed he has been admitted to a private hospital for the past two days, with tests still underway. “The match against Namibia looks doubtful as of now,” the source said.

Worryingly, Abhishek had already been unwell before India’s opener against the USA last Sunday. He battled through it, walked out to bat but was dismissed for a duck, did not field in the second innings, and skipped post-match handshakes entirely. His condition has only deteriorated since.
