Students march towards the original venue after police deny permission for the CJP-backed protest

New Delhi, October 10: With Jantar Mantar sealed off, AISA national president Neha Bora announced on X that the protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls had moved to Dilli Haat. She urged supporters to turn up despite the crackdown.

Bora and activist Yogendra Yadav were later seen leading protesters near AIIMS, marching from Dilli Haat towards Jantar Mantar. Yadav repeated the demands that the SIR be cancelled and the CEC resign. Bora’s Instagram livestream, which showed her marching with former JNUSU president Dhananjay and joint secretary Danish Ali, was abruptly cut off. She was subsequently detained.

Delhi Police had refused permission for the Jantar Mantar protest, citing short notice, security concerns and alleged violations of conditions during earlier demonstrations. Police said the restrictions were needed to prevent overcrowding and protect residents and commuters, and warned of legal action against anyone violating prohibitory orders.

The Cockroach Janta Party has organised the protest together with AISA, SFI, AISF and AAP’s student wing, ASAP. The groups have vowed to keep up the agitation.
