IGI Airport shuts runway 29L/11R from February 26 to May 25 for resurfacing, new taxiway construction, and upgraded landing systems

Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport has closed one of its three runways for a sweeping rehabilitation exercise lasting nearly three months. A Notice to Air Missions (NOTAM) issued by the Airports Authority of India confirms that runway 29L/11R will remain shut to all landings and take-offs from February 26 until May 25, 2026 with possible extension if work demands it.
The upgrade package includes full runway resurfacing, construction of a rapid exit taxiway, and installation of a new Instrument Landing System. Airport operator DIAL notes that the runway, commissioned in 2008, has been overwhelmed by rising air traffic and natural ageing, making a comprehensive overhaul unavoidable. Routine patching in 2017 no longer suffices.
The closure, originally planned for February 16, was deferred due to the AI Summit and associated VVIP movements. Over 15 taxiways will also remain unavailable during this period.
