Party calls it routine restructuring, opposition alleges internal discord ahead of Punjab polls

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has replaced Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha as its deputy leader in the Upper House, appointing Ashok Mittal in his place. The move has triggered political speculation, with the Bharatiya Janata Party alleging internal rifts and distancing between Chadha and party chief Arvind Kejriwal.

AAP leaders, however, described the decision as part of routine organisational restructuring. Mittal, an industrialist and founder of Lovely Professional University, dismissed rumours of discord and said the party regularly rotates responsibilities.

Party insiders indicated that the change aims to strengthen focus on Punjab ahead of upcoming assembly elections. Mittal emphasised that he would raise key state issues, including fund delays and public concerns, more effectively in Parliament.

Chadha remains a senior party leader, with AAP reiterating its commitment to giving opportunities to different voices within the organisation
