From “delulu” to “waste-guna-huiya,” lawmakers borrowed youth lingo as they clashed over the new anti-cheating legislation
Parliament’s Monsoon Session took an unexpectedly casual turn on Tuesday, as MPs from both the ruling NDA and the Opposition peppered their speeches with Gen Z slang while debating the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026.
BJP’s Bansuri Swaraj credited PM Modi for stepping in where she said the Congress had left a policy gap, using the term “clocked it” to describe his response. Fellow BJP MP Tejasvi Surya dismissed the Opposition’s belief that students back them as pure “delulu,” arguing that young people preparing for exams care less about political point-scoring and more about systemic fixes. Shiv Sena’s Shrikant Shinde mocked the Opposition’s recent protest outside the PM’s residence, framing their conduct through the acronyms MIA and FOMO before accusing them of delusional thinking.
Congress’s Deepender Hooda countered by invoking the youth’s own protest chants, including the viral nonsense phrase “waste-guna-huiya,” while linking their energy to the historic slogan “Inquilab Zindabad.” NCP (SP)’s Supriya Sule pushed back on the trend altogether, urging colleagues to focus on the substance of the paper-leak crisis rather than turning the session into a vocabulary contest. Congress’s Priyanka Gandhi took a sharper jab, suggesting the PM’s outreach video to NEET aspirants needed a change of heart rather than a change of camera angle.
Beyond the wordplay, the bill itself proposes a minimum five-year jail term, fast-track courts with a three-month trial window, and a special task force to investigate leaks. Congress’s Gaurav Gogoi dismissed the amendments as cosmetic, questioning why a 2024 law needed such a major overhaul within two years, and criticized police conduct during recent student protests.
