Traffic curbs from 7:45pm to 9pm; commuters advised to avoid affected corridors and use Metro, especially for airport travel
Delhi traffic police issued an advisory ahead of a motorcade rehearsal for the BRICS Summit, warning commuters of restrictions on more than 35 roads and diversions at 22 points across the national capital.
The restrictions are scheduled from 7:45pm to 9pm as part of security arrangements for the summit, which is scheduled to be held in New Delhi from September 11 to 13.
Major roads expected to be affected include Sardar Patel Marg, Mother Teresa Crescent, Teen Murti Marg, Akbar Road, Mathura Road, Dr Zakir Hussain Marg, Africa Avenue Road, Janpath, Ashoka Road, Barakhamba Road, Niti Marg, APJ Abdul Kalam Road, Press Enclave Road and Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg.
Traffic diversions will be implemented at several key intersections. At Dr Dinesh Nandini Dalmia Chowk, traffic will not be allowed towards Mathura Road and Tilak Marg, with vehicles diverted towards routes including BSZ Marg and IP Marg. Restrictions will also apply around Connaught Place, Patel Chowk, RML Hospital, Dhaula Kuan and Moti Bagh.
Motorists travelling towards Bharat Mandapam will face restrictions at several points, including under Lodhi Flyover and the U-turn opposite DPS Mathura Road. Vehicles headed towards Bhairon Marg from Ring Road will also be diverted through alternate routes.
Special routes have also been outlined for passengers travelling to Delhi’s railway stations and Indira Gandhi International Airport. Airport-bound commuters from Gurugram, Dwarka, New Delhi, South Delhi, West Delhi, North Delhi and East Delhi have been provided alternative routes to the terminals.
Public buses may be rerouted during VVIP movements, but Delhi Metro services will continue to operate normally. Traffic police have advised commuters to plan journeys in advance, allow extra travel time and follow directions issued by traffic personnel.
Those travelling to the airport during the restriction period have been specifically advised to use the Metro to minimise the risk of delays. Emergency and essential-service vehicles will be given priority.
