Over two feet of water reported on key roads as IMD forecasts more intense rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds
Gurugram, September 5: Heavy rain lashed Gurugram on Saturday, flooding several major roads and residential areas and bringing traffic to a crawl as the city remained under an orange alert.
Gurugram recorded 51.5 mm of rainfall until 8am, according to data from the India Meteorological Department’s regional centre in Chandigarh. The weather agency warned of continued heavy rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds across the city and parts of Haryana.
At 10.38am, the IMD forecast rainfall exceeding 15 mm per hour over the next two to three hours, accompanied by moderate thunderstorms and strong winds.
Several key roads, including Sheetla Mata Road, Old Delhi-Gurugram Road and stretches linking Sectors 9A, 10 and 17, reported water accumulation of up to two feet. Areas including MG Road, Sectors 31, 46, 10, 12, Narsinghpur, 69 and 70 were also affected.
Manesar recorded the highest rainfall in the district at 54 mm in the 24 hours to 8am, followed by Wazirabad at 42 mm and Gurugram at 41 mm.
Traffic personnel were deployed at critical intersections to divert vehicles from flooded stretches. Civic agencies said suction pumps and super-sucker machines were being used to clear water from low-lying areas.
