Check-in and boarding switch to manual mode; CSMIA says airport and flight operations were not affected

Mumbai, October 27: A network outage at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) disrupted departure processes for about 50 minutes on Tuesday evening, causing confusion for IndiGo and Air India passengers.

The problem began at around 7:05 pm, airport sources said. It slowed check-in, caused gate changes and crew delays, and held up boarding scanners. Check-in did not stop entirely, but long waits and last-minute gate changes left many passengers in crowded departure halls unsure where to go. In line with standard protocol, airport systems were switched to manual mode while technical teams worked to fix the fault.

The airport operator played down the impact. A CSMIA spokesperson described it as a temporary network disruption and said manual processing had been introduced to reduce inconvenience and keep essential services running. The spokesperson said no impact on airport or flight operations had been recorded so far.

It was not immediately clear what caused the outage or how many flights were delayed. Neither IndiGo nor Air India had issued a statement at the time of reporting.

Mumbai airport is one of India’s busiest, and even brief system failures can quickly cause cascading delays across airline schedules.
