Early pre-monsoon showers bring relief from heat as gusty winds and lightning hit parts of the capital region

Light rain and thunderstorms swept across Delhi and the wider Delhi-NCR region on Sunday morning, bringing much-needed respite from rising temperatures. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for the national capital, warning of moderate rainfall, lightning and gusty winds.
According to IMD data, the temperature at the Safdarjung weather station stood at around 22°C at 7:30 am. The showers, accompanied by brisk winds and occasional lightning, created a mild chill in the air and eased the early summer heat.
Authorities have also issued an orange alert for Ghaziabad, while neighbouring Noida remains under a yellow alert. The alerts indicate the possibility of light to moderate rainfall and wind speeds of up to 40 kmph.
Weather experts attribute the change to a western disturbance approaching the western Himalayas, triggering cyclonic activity over parts of Pakistan and north India.
