L-G VK Saxena inaugurates five stations across the Union Territory, with a sixth near Magnetic Hill set to follow

Leh, July 10: Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena today inaugurated Ladakh’s first five Electric Vehicle Charging Stations, a milestone step toward the Union Territory’s Carbon Neutral Ladakh vision. The stations are located at Main Bus Stand Leh, Tia Rong, Solar Colony, Chuchot Shamma, and Khaltsi, with a sixth near Magnetic Hill nearing completion.
Each station features two fast-charging guns capable of charging vehicles to 80 percent in 30 minutes to an hour, along with fire safety systems and emergency shutdown mechanisms, ensuring convenience for residents and tourists alike.
Calling it a historic day for Ladakh, Saxena said the initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a carbon-neutral Ladakh, protecting its fragile Himalayan ecology while cutting fossil fuel dependence. He expressed confidence that Ladakh’s people, known for embracing progressive change, would readily adopt electric mobility.
Saxena urged citizens to gradually transition from petrol and diesel vehicles to EVs, calling it essential for reducing pollution and preserving Ladakh’s unique ecological heritage for future generations.
