Women’s TT team stages comeback
India’s women’s table tennis team advanced to the quarter-finals after defeating Thailand 3-2 in a closely contested knockout encounter. Yashaswini Ghorpade delivered two crucial wins, while Sreeja Akula sealed the tie in the deciding match after India twice fell behind.
India will face North Korea in the quarter-finals at 3:50 pm IST.
Treesa-Gayatri revive badminton hopes
Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand kept India’s women’s badminton team alive against Japan, defeating Yuki Fukushima and Mayu Matsumoto 21-17, 21-16. The Indian pair registered their first victory over the world No. 3 combination.
However, India faced pressure after PV Sindhu and Unnati Hooda lost their respective matches. Tanvi Sharma was also trailing against Nozomi Okuhara, leaving India’s quarter-final campaign in a difficult position.
Kabaddi team dominates South Korea
India’s men registered a commanding 63-31 victory over South Korea in their second kabaddi match. The raiders led the charge, although defensive lapses remain an area to address ahead of their upcoming clash against Iran.
Shooting misses podium; boxing advances
India’s mixed 10m air rifle pair, Elavenil Valarivan and Parth Mane, finished fourth with 376.3 points, narrowly missing a medal after remaining in contention until the final stages.
In boxing, Sakshi Chaudhary began her campaign with a convincing 5-0 victory over the Philippines’ Aira Villegas in the women’s 51kg opening round.
India’s men’s 4x100m medley relay team also qualified for the final, finishing seventh overall in the heats.
Elsewhere, Chetan Bhatt and Alisha Choudhary suffered defeats in karate, while India’s men lost to Malaysia in sepaktakraw. The day’s competitions continued across fencing, wushu and other disciplines, with India seeking to build on its six-medal tally from the opening three days
