India’s shooting, rowing, canoe sprint and table tennis campaigns gather momentum, while Mirabai Chanu and the men’s badminton team headline the day’s anticipated events.

India’s campaign at the Asian Games 2026 entered Day 5 on Wednesday with athletes competing across shooting, rowing, table tennis and sepaktakraw. Manu Bhaker recovered from an uneven start in the women’s 10m air pistol qualification, while Indian teams secured places in finals in canoe sprint and rowing.

Manu Bhaker recovers in shooting

Bhaker improved her position after a shaky opening series, scoring 98 in her third series to move to sixth in the standings. She had begun with 95 points in the first series. Esha Singh and Suruchi Singh were placed outside the top 30 after their respective second-series scores of 93 and 94.

Indian paddlers secure final berths

India’s men’s kayak four team qualified for the canoe sprint final after finishing third in its heat with a time of 1:29.447.

In rowing, Balraj Panwar advanced to the men’s singles sculls final after clocking 6:52.84 to finish third in his heat. Satnam and Salman also secured a place in the men’s double sculls final after finishing second in their heat.

Sepaktakraw team starts with victory

India’s men’s regu team defeated the Philippines 15-7, 15-10 in the opening match of their group fixture. The win followed earlier defeats against Japan and Malaysia.

Table tennis pair fights back

Harmeet Desai and Yashaswini Ghorpade recovered from losing the opening game to level their mixed doubles match against the Maldives at 1-1.

India’s schedule also features Mirabai Chanu in the women’s 49kg weightlifting final and the men’s badminton team facing China in the semifinal, with a place in the gold medal match at stake.
