As the Middle East burns, India’s diplomatic standing emerges as a rare bridge between warring parties

In the fog of a rapidly escalating Middle East conflict, one voice is being spoken of as a potential circuit-breaker. UAE Ambassador to India Hussain Hassan Mirza said on Monday that a single phone call from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to his counterparts in Iran and Israel could “solve this issue, can end this issue.”

The confidence is not ceremonial. Modi commands rare credibility across all parties to the conflict , respected by Gulf leaderships, Iranian interlocutors, and Washington alike. The UAE, caught in a war being fought on its own soil between external powers, finds itself urgently seeking diplomatic off-ramps. Mirza noted that Abu Dhabi , a neighbour to Iran and a partner to Israel under the Abraham Accords is uniquely positioned to mediate, and sees India as a critical enabler.

Modi has already spoken to the UAE President, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, strongly condemning attacks on the Gulf nation and reaffirming India’s solidarity.

In Parliament, External Affairs Minister Jaishankar reinforced New Delhi’s consistent position: dialogue over destruction, diplomacy over escalation, and Indian national interests : energy security, citizen safety, and trade stability above all else.

India isn’t choosing sides. It is choosing influence.
