Relief operations intensify across 13 districts as boats, drones, and disaster response teams work round the clock


Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh’s flood crisis has widened, with 173 villages across 13 districts now affected, state officials confirmed on Tuesday. The worst-hit regions include Badaun, Bahraich, Ballia, Barabanki, Bijnor, Farrukhabad, Gautam Buddh Nagar, Gonda, Kasganj, Lakhimpur Kheri, Muzaffarnagar, Sitapur and Unnao, with roughly 13,058 hectares of land and 84,362 people affected so far.
Despite the scale of the disruption, authorities described the situation as stable and under control, with district administrations mobilised to relocate affected families and ensure food, medical aid, and essential supplies reach them.
Relief Commissioner Hrishikesh Bhaskar Yashod, reviewing rescue operations on Tuesday, instructed district magistrates to move people into relief camps and directed officials to keep flood outposts fully staffed while closely tracking river levels. So far, nearly 4,845 people have been shifted to safety, out of over 4,800 relocated overall , housed among 1,263 prepared flood shelters, 41 of which are currently active.
The state’s emergency machinery has scaled up sharply: 1,589 flood outposts now dot the affected regions, backed by 428 boats and motorboats, over 1,100 local divers, 16 NDRF teams, SDRF units, and PAC personnel deployed across 52 districts. Relief supplies have kept pace too, with more than 15,000 food-grain packets and 30,000 lunch packets distributed to date.
Public communication has also ramped up over 140 crore SMS alerts were sent between August 1 and 18 to warn residents ahead of rising waters, alongside continuous updates via social media
