Roy Kapur Films confirms the shooting legend’s life story was headed to the big screen before his sudden death at 49

Indian sports lost one of its most towering figures Friday as Jaspal Rana, Asian Games gold medalist and coach extraordinaire, died of cardiac complications aged 49. The celebrated shooter fell ill returning from the ISSF World Cup in Munich, was hospitalised in Delhi, underwent a stent procedure and never came home.
In a poignant coincidence, production house Roy Kapur Films revealed that a biopic chronicling Rana’s remarkable journey was already in development, calling him “a true champion.” Rana’s legacy extends far beyond his own medals he shaped the careers of Olympic medalist Manu Bhaker and Saurabh Chaudhary, among others, cementing his place as Indian shooting’s greatest mentor.
The nation mourns not just an athlete, but an architect of champions.
