PM Modi, Jaishankar, Doval and CDS Chauhan to address all Indian envoys in a high-stakes three-day strategic conclave

India’s entire diplomatic corps converges in New Delhi from April 28–30 for the Heads of Mission conference, with the West Asia war and the crippling Straits of Hormuz standoff topping the agenda.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri will open proceedings with a sweeping assessment of the crisis where both the US and Iran are wrestling for control of one of the world’s most critical maritime arteries. Before the February 28 war, 135 ships crossed the Straits daily. Today, Iran’s IRGC is demanding a $2 million toll per vessel while the US Navy has orders to neutralise any Iranian gunboat threatening maritime traffic leaving Gulf nations and global trade as collateral damage.

EAM Jaishankar will brief envoys on the new world equilibrium spanning West Asia, the Ukraine war, and China’s expanding footprint. CDS Gen Anil Chauhan will assess regional military realities, while NSA Ajit Doval will lay out India’s national security priorities with Pakistan’s emerging role as a Gulf peacemaker drawing particular scrutiny.

Significantly, New Delhi signals a tougher diplomatic posture, favouring assertive envoys over career accommodationists in key postings.
